Session Intiation Protocol (SIP)

Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is defined as signalling protocol used for establishing sessions in an IP network.

A session could be a simple two-way telephone call, a video exchange on-line or a collaborative multi-media conference session. The ability to establish these sessions means that a host of innovative services become possible, such as voice-enriched e-commerce, web page click-to-dial, and other IP Centrex services.

To communicate using SIP, it is useful to think of the way your hotel still utilises PSTN dedicated lines or bundles of circuits. SIP is configured in a similar way, which is called SIP "trunking". It will have a significant impact on future telephony cost reductions and during the early adoption of this technology, a rapid return on investment (ROI)

As a hospitality technology, it opens up new opportunities to enhance the way you communicate, from a simple Internet site call button to contact reservations, to a fully integrated hotel and supplier communication system.

The potential for a rapid return on investment is the key driver of SIP trunk deployments. However, the maximum return on investment can only be achieved if you adopt VoIP outside of the hotel local area network (LAN). HTM can advise you how this is possible, by extending the SIP capabilities of the corporate network outside the LAN, satellite offices, remote workers and even customers can use VoIP.

Imagine offering your key conference organiser or hotel booking company the ability to contact you by telephone for free! all for the cost of a Mitel or TeleMatrix handset.
