New Build Hotel
Step 5 - Configuration
HTM configure the telephone system (extension requirements, numbers, phone types access levels and functions for every telephone) and the HSIA solution. At this point a check is made to establish that outlets have been provided in all appropriate locations if HTM is not providing the structured cabling (this should be undertaken before it is too late to add any additional outlets).
The HTM check-list includes areas such as the placement of the Wi-Fi and/or DECT access points and the location of telephone outlets for the often missed areas such as stores, plant rooms and the laundry room. The project and hotel staff match desk lay-outs with the cabling plans, take time to review any anticipated changes, to avoid outlets being provided in their final proposed position and needing a last minute change.
Step 6 - Implementation and Testing
Dependent upon the state of the communications room, HTM will install the minimum of equipment required for first occupation and then install the remainder when the room is fully ready (which it often is not at this stage, but at least it must be lockable and dust free). At this point, it is important to ensure that any cabling required for first occupation is terminated and tested prior to any equipment being patched.
During the period between first occupation and the hotel opening, the HTM trainer will visit to set up and train staff ensuring that key staff know how to set-up day/night service arrangements, assist with message recording and other identified key steps. You have the comfort of knowing that the HTM trainer will also run through the configuration, set up user groups and keys and re-print the telephone templates as required prior to the hotel opening.
The remainder of the communications room equipment will then be installed (i.e. when it is completely ready and before the bedroom equipment is to be installed and tested). Once the bedroom Cat 5e cabling is tested, switches and any other equipment will be installed in the intermediary locations and patched to the bedroom outlets. HTM work systematically according to tried and tested procedures, including a telephone test with a ring back test of every extension (to ensure it is connected, it is the correct extension and that the telephone rings). All High Speed Internet Access (HSIA) is lap-top tested through to the PMS and all wireless access areas are checked for coverage. This also ensures all telephone and guest HSIA charges are billed correctly.
