New Build Hotel

Step 3 - Ordering Equipment

The next step is to place orders for the actual equipment required i.e. once specific quantities have been finalised. If this is the first HTM involvement, our project manager would ask to check that the infrastructure is capable of supporting the services to be provided. Their processes would include checking the main communications room and intermediary locations, to ensure they are satisfactory to house the necessary equipment.

Step 4 - Planning Stage

Having ordered the equipment, the HTM project staff actively liase with all parties concerned, they feel that there are now two main areas that now need to be tackled in greater detail:

Communications Room and Rack Lay-out
A detailed room plan is then developed and a schematic diagram provided for each cabinet/rack, specifying what equipment goes where and how the cabling is terminated. The project manager will always ask that in the bedrooms it is stated how the cables will be terminated. Another tip HTM project staff would like to pass on relates to the room layout and planning for its services. HTM staff usually plan for all TV connections to the first panel (or series of panels), HTM guest Internet or other vendor broadband to the next and so on. They then provide a 1u gap below each panel for a 24 port switch (or 1u gap after the first panel then after every 2 panels if multiple panels per type and using 48 port switches).

You benefit by saving rack space ( by reducing management bars) and by using shorter patch leads, which results in a much tidier rack and ultimately saving you costs. Your hotel or IT staff have little or no cable management work to do as each service is completely segregated from the other.
