New Build Hotel
Step 1 - Scope
The first step is to scope the systems and services to be provided within the hotel e.g. telephone extensions and type ( IP, digital and analogue ), the number of wired HSIA ports including multiple port use for function rooms and the number and location of HSIA / DECT access points.
Step 2 - Infrastructure
Once the scope has been defined, HTM then determine that the proposed Communications Room is sufficient to house the anticipated equipment (preferably with some room for growth), that all intermediary cabinets are sufficient to house any network switches and other related equipment and that the infrastructure is sufficient to support the services to be provided ( ensuring any multicores are sized appropriately).
Let us consider a 156 bedroom hotel with over 6 floors and 26 bedrooms on each floor. You may need to install a small patch cabinet on each floor, which would require 2 x 24 way patch panels and 2 x 24 or 25 way switches on each floor, for every service provided. By grouping 3 floors of equipment on the 2nd floor and 3 on the 5th, this would reduce the number of patch panels and switches required per service from 12 to 8.
In addition, the number of Cat 5e and Fiber links must be carefully considered to ensure they are sufficient for current and future requirements (the extra cost of a few cables or Fiber now could save a fortune later). HTM believe it is important to ensure that multiple Cat 5 links are provided to all intermediary locations within 90 meters of the Comms Room. Most guest services installed today will run on Cat 5e, it is considerably cheaper than connecting via fiber. Fiber is necessary for any distances over 90 meters and important for higher applications need for speed in the future.
